Office Notice 01/01/2021: Due to a delay in the recruitment process, the new Ombudsman is not currently in post. We remain open and able to accept enquiries and applications however there may be a delay in processing them. Staff will be able to provide further information but please submit any applications as soon as possible as the legal time limits for making an application still apply.

Backlog Update

As of 28 February 2020, we have 50 unallocated substance and maladministration cases, a decrease of 7 from last month. However, the delay in allocating a case to an investigator has remained the same at 14 months. This is still unacceptably high and we are trying to find ways to reduce this wait without compromising on the quality of our investigations.

The team are working hard to reduce the delays and we encourage you to make an application to our office if you think we may be able to help you. It is important that you make an application to us within the 6-week timeline which is set out in law, otherwise, we may not be able to look at your case. Our Enquiries Team can give more information about the process and can be contacted on 020 7877 3450, Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Applications for referrals, undue delay investigations and reviews of admissibility decisions are not subject to delays.
